Food for red blood. Rev.
1984
Dietary recommendations for increasing iron intake and preventing iron-deficiency anemia are outlined in this booklet from the Indian Health Service. Common causes and symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia are described. Iron-rich foods are identified in each of the following groups: meat and meat substitutes, breads and cereals, fruits and fruit juicjes, vegetables, and miscellaneous foods. A daily food guide specifies the recommended daily number of servings for each of the major food groups, and identifies common foods in each group. A sample meal plan and menu emphasizes iron-rich foods; a recipe for braised liver with stewed tomatoes is also included.
