Progesterone content of 536 milk samples, taken at the time of insemination and 21 days later, was correlated with the possibility of pregnancy. It was found that the higher the difference was between the progesterone contents of milk samples taken at the time of insemination and 21 days later, the more possible the conception was. At the same time, it could be diagnosed with 100 per cent accuracy the lack of conception in cows without showing signs of return to oestrus 21 days after insemination when the concentrations of milk samples, taken at the time of insemination and 21 days later were comparable or the latter value was lower, even though when the milk investigation carried out on the 21st day showed a progesterone value characteristic for pregnant cows.
