The trials were conducted with 10 alfalfa varieties and 12 alfalfa hybrids at experimental fields at Rimski Sancevi (Yugoslavia) on a chernozem soil type. The highest yield of green mass was achieved with the population Lovcenac (78.9 t/ha) and the variety NS Mediana ZMS V (78.4 t/ha). The highest yield of dry matter was achieved with the variety NS Mediana ZMS V (19.7 t/ha), followed by Debarska (19.5 t/ha) and the population Lovcenac (19.5 t/ha). The hybrid H-6 had the highest yield of green mass (18.3 t/ha) followed by H-5 and H-8 (17.1 t/ha). The highest yield of dry matter was achieved with the hybrid H-6 (4.6 t/ha), followed by the hybrids H-5 and H-8 (4.3 t/ha). Average height of the hybrids ranged from 46.9 to 56.6 cm. Average content of dry matter in the hybrids ranged from 23.2 to 25.6.
