[E' stata valutata la resistenza della linea HM1091 della barbabietola da zucchero sulla base della produzione di galle a seguito dell'inoculazione precoce o tardiva con larve della seconda generazione, che consentivano lo sviluppo, rispettivamente, di una o due generazioni del nematode. In generale si rilevava la produzione di un numero molto limitato di cisti rispetto a quanto avveniva nella cv. di controllo suscettibile Betty, e le galle erano sempre piccole (meno di 400 micronm). Un numero limitato di piante di HM1091 che presentavano un elevato livello di moltiplicazione di H. schactii probabilmente non avevano ereditato la resistenza. Dopo una crescita di tre mesi, la produzione di larve era maggiore di 500 volte sulla cv. Betty rispetto a HM1091. Gli essudati radicali di ambedue le varieta' stimolavano la schiusa del 90% delle uova rispetto al 40% che si verificava in acqua].

The resistance of sugar beet HM1091 line to Heterodera schachtii was evaluated on the basis of the production of cysts after early or late inoculation with second stage juveniles, which allowed the development of one or two generations of the nematode, respectively. In general, very few cysts were produced compared with the susceptible control, cv. Betty, and were always small (less than 400 micronm). A few plants of HM1091 that supported a high rate of multiplication of H. schachtii are considered to have not inherited resistance. After three months growth, the production of juveniles was 500 times more on cv. Betty than on HM1091. Root exudates from both varieties stimulated 90% of egg hatching after three weeks compared with 40% in water.
