English. In a preliminary study attempting to assess the value of triticale as a forage plant, in comparison with oats and barley, we found that among several lines of this new species, some are able to produce interesting dry matter yields, particularly when compared with cultivars of barley. Forage quality of the triticale seems to be also quite superior to barley, having a lower crude fiber content and a higher energetic value. However, when compared with oats, the triticale superiority is not so evident.
Show more [+] Less [-]PORTUGUES: Num estudo preliminar do valor forrageiro de algumas formas de Triticale, em comparacao com Aveias e Cevadas, verifica-se que esta nova especie pode ser interessante para ser utilizada como planta forrageira, havendo linhas com producoes geralmente superiores as de Cevada, embora quase sempre inferiores as de Aveia. No aspecto qualitativo, os Triticales paracem ter a vantagem de conter menores teores de fibra, sobretudo em relacao as Cevadas, revelando tambem possuir um valor energetico nitidamente superior a estas, embora em relacao as Aveias tais diferencas sejam menos evidentes.
