Production characteristics of four fodder beet cultivars were examined in the period 1993-1995 at the Rimski Sancevi Experimental Fields, near Novi Sad (Yugoslavia), on chernozem soil. The Yugoslav cultivar ALH-9110 had the highest root yield, 71.6 t/ha. The variety Kyros, which was used as the standard, had the lowest yield of roots, 63.8 t/ha. The cultivar ALH-9110 also had the highest yield of dry matter, 11.1 t/ha, followed by the cultivar Clarissima, 10.1 t/ha. The two cultivars were also superior in the yield of leaves. An intensive Cercospora beticola attack and an increased number of diseased roots were registered in the second year. The highest dry matter content was found in the cultivar ALH-9110, 15.3 on average. The content varied in dependence of cultivar and year between 10 and 18.7.
