Small-scale mud carp or Pla Nuan Chan, in Thai, Cirrhina microlepis is a herbivorous freshwater fish generally distributed throughout the country. It was found abundantly in the past as it appeared in a great number of ancient literature, some dated back 300 years ago. Researchers at National Inland Fisheries Institute have succeeded in spawning them by using hormone extracted from silver carp's pituitary gland injection at the level of 1 dose for single injection. The eggs were obtained about 6 hours after the injection. And at the level of 0.7 dose and 1.8 dose with a 6-hours interval for double injection the eggs were obtained 4 hours after second injection. There was no difference between injected and non-injected male. After hatching, the fry were transferred to an earthen pond for nursing.
