An analysis about the structural and functional aspects of corn breeding in Mexico is presented. There are technical corn publications since 1911. Teaching about genetics began in the National Agricultural School, in 1927. The first genetics book was published in 1946 by J.L. de la Loma. Some of the first corn breeders were E. Taboada R. and Eduardo Limon. At present, there are 27 corn breeders in the INIFAP, but that number tends to be reduced in the last years.
