This diet analysis software program evaluates 1800 foods for 58 food components including: cholesterol, sodium, dietary and crude fiber, trace minerals and sugar. Single foods, recipes, menus, or dietary intake of one or several days may be analyzed. Portions may be entered as any of the listed units of measure. Percentages of fat, carbohydrate and protein are given along with percentages of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) nutrients based on age, sex, weight and height. Foods can be compared against ratios between any two food componants. The RDA database may be edited. The "Sort" function lists foods in descending order for the amount of any food componant. The "Screen Filter" function, designed to assist with menu planning, compares foods against user-determined nutrient criteria. Diabetic exchanges, based on the 1987 American Diabetic Association Exchange System, and food substitutes, based on nutrient density, may also be obtained for all foods. The "Fit Program" calculates caloric need based on age, sex, weight and participation in up to 50 specific activities. The activities database may be expanded. Energy intake and activity requirements for weight gain, loss or maintenance can also be determined as part of the "Fit Program". Foods may be entered by code or by typing the first three letters of the desired food item. The database, based on USDA Handbook Number 8 can be modified and expanded to incorporate new foods and/or nutrient values. Database updates are available from the producer. Data are provided in both tabular and graphic form. Limited wordprocessing capabilities are available to permit the addition of comments or recommendations to the analyses. A summary analysis highlights possible nutrient excess and deficiencies.
