Photoperiodic responses were investigated in a set of mostly new cultivars and advanced lines of wheat of winter and spring growth habits. Photoperiodic sensitivity was determined under short-day growing conditions (artificially reduced light period to 10 h), and by comparison with growing data under natural daylight of long day (natural light period longer than 14 h). Results document a relationship between photoperiodic sensitivity and earliness. The relationship of earliness to photoperiodic sensitivity was demonstrated by regression analysis. It has been confirmed that the spring growth habits are earlier than the winter habits of the same or similar sensitivity.
