Effect of artificial ageing on emergence rate index, stand establishment and grain yield in wheat.
1987
Ram C. | Wiesner L.E.
Twelve seed lots of two wheat cultivars, namely Lew and Kewana, were created by artificial ageing at 50 deg C temperature and 100% relative humidity for 0, 12, 24 and 36 h. The laboratory germination percentage varied from 62 to 80%. Field performance of seed lots was evaluated as emergence rate index, stand establishment, plant height, number of plants/m, heads/plant, seeds/head, 1000-seed weight and grain yield; significant differences were observed among the seed lots for all the parameters. Differential response to ageing was observed between the cultivars. Artificial ageing of seed lots for 36 h had adversely deteriorated the seed quality as indicated by the decline in emergence rate index, stand establishment and grain yield.
