The behavior of jackfruit seeds under varied moisture levels and storage temperature was studied. The low-constant oven method (103 C for 16 hours) using one seed per replicate was found the most appropriate method for moisture content determination. Despite variability among samples, the weight difference method appeared the better method for determining the critical moisture level for germination (CMG) and for loss in viability (CMD). CMG depended more on seed maturity rather than on the actual moisture level. Storage under saturated atmosphere proved better than soaking, as it extended viability even up to 1.5 months. Moist storage in air-tight screw-capped bottles at 16-18 C was the best Among the storage methods tried. The isozyme pattern of fresh, air-dried, soaked and those maintained in saturated atmosphere were also determined.
