The section of the book deals with the necessity of new approach to selecting fodder crops complex in Ukraine as main traditional high-yielding crops do not meet fully up-to-date requirements. In particular, they begin to vegetate relatively late, are not perennial and also have no plasticity and resistance to unfavourable conditions. Introducing, extending into cultivation and spreading of new plants are necessary. The following basic criteria of extending into cultivation are stated: edibility, protein content, yields, seed productivity, intensity of vegetation, resistance to cold, drought, pests and diseases, competeability with weeds, economic worthiness of extending into cultivation.
