"Nampoongtangkong" selected from crossing between Chibahandachi and Ped 437-3-4-4-2 was developed by Crop Experiment Station, RDA in 1984, and its agronomic characteristics were similar to those of "Younghotangkong" cultivar. Its plant type and growth habit were a semi-erect Virginia type, of which reproductive buds were born alternatively at the first and second branches. The pods were clustered near the base of plant bearing medium size pods with a 65.7 gr of 100 kernels weight, and it produced more pods per hill than "Younghotangkong". The variety was evaluated as a high oil content variety of 53.0 % along with protein content of 26.5 %, and also outyielded "Younghotangkong" by 8 %.
