A three-year field microexperiment with winter wheat (Tr. aestivum L.) was carried out on smonitza soil. The influence of time of nitrogen application on the content of nitrogen in plant and the dependence of grain yield and quality on this dynamics were investigated. Varying of the time of nitrogen application caused changes in the content of nitrogen in plants during vegetation period. In the first stages of development the highest content of nitrogen was found in plants with the before-sowing application of the total nitrogen quantity. In later stages of development the content of nitrogen in these plants was the lowest. The correlation and regression analysis has shown a great dependence of the yield and quality of grain on the nitrogen content in plant organs during vegetation. Grain yield depended mostly on the nitrogen content in plant from the stage of the first node to heading or to full grain formation. In heading, positive correlation occured between nitrogen content in top leaf, ear and stalk + sheaths and the grain quality, i.e. total nitrogen content in mature grain. In later stages the correlation moved towards those plant organs that were physiologically most active.
