The fattening of 40 pigs from body weight of 32.5 to 110 kg in traditional pens (control group) and in two batteries (experimental groups) were carried out. The floor area per 1 animal in the control and experimental groups was 0.7 and 0.4 sq.m. The results show that in battery fattening the daily weight gains were increased by 24 g and the slaughter weight was attained 10 days earlier, on the average, as compared with traditional fattening system. Moreover, the slaughter yield of experimental pigs was higher by 1.4%. The meat of animals fattened in batteries was more delicate, with higher fat content and greater water holding capacity.
