The investigation dealt with mechanisms of inheritance of the root yield, sugar content and yield of biological sugar, as well as with the effect of heterosis upon the sugar content in F1 generation of sugar beet. It was established that inheritance of the root yield was characterized by partial or full dominance of better parent or intermediacy. Heterosis for the root yield did not appear. With the majority of hybrid combinations, the sugar content was on the level of better parent or parents' average. Heterosis appeared with some combinations. The yield of biological sugar in hybrids was on the level of better parent or parents' average. Heterosis appeared with some combinations. The yield of biological sugar in hybrids was on the level of better parent or parents' average.
