Changes of amino acid in xylem sap, leaves and spurs during flower bud formation in Japanese apricot (Prunus mume Sieb. et. Zucc).

The changes of amino acid in relation to flower bud formation in Japanese apricot was studied at Nanjing in 1985. The increase of content of aspartic acid, glutamate, serine and valine, and the decrease of alanine, methionine and lysine were examined in xylem sap during the physiological differentiation of flower bud (PDFB). Isoleucine and leucine which were absent in xylem sap before were determined at the same time. Cysteine increased and serine declined before floral primordia formation (FPF), and the reverse occurred during FPF, the amount of amino acid in leaves and spurs reached the maximum at PDFB and FPF. A strong fluctuation of content of aspartic acid and arginine took place in spurs. An increase of aspartic acid by 103.3% before FPF was followed by a decrease by 46.4%, however, arginine increased steadily. Therefore, the percentage of acidic amino acids became lower, while that of basic amino acids got higher during FPF.
