Six piglets, mixed bred between landrace and largewhite aged 2 1/2 months were used in this experiment. Two pigs each were initially inoculated with 10,000 and 500 larvae of T. spiralis respectively by stomach tube. The other two pigs used as control group were not given any inoculation. After 54 days, one pig in the first group and one pig in the second group were challenged with 10,000 larvae. Before and after the inoculation, serum samples from all pigs were collected every 10 days until 114 days (11 sera from each pig). Antibodies were detected from all serum samples by ELISA (Enzyme Linked-Immunosorbent Assay). Immunity of pigs against T. spiralis with high inoculum (10,000 larvae) could be detected after 10 days of infection, and on day 30th or 40th with low inoculum (500 larvae). In challenge pigs the antibodies were stimulated. This experiment showed that the antibodies of swine against T. spiralis were related to the number of larvae in primary inoculation and the challenge infection ELISA can be used as serological diagnostic technique to detect the antibodies of swine against T. spiralis.
