Luftverschmutzung durch Ozon erschwert den Pflanzenbau.
1995
Fuhrer J.
The adverse effects of air pollution by ozone on crops have been studied intensively in both the USA and Europe. Especially in wheat a decrease in yield with increasing ozone stress has been observed. Parallely the susceptibility to several fungal diseases increases. Other crops such as oat, barley, and corn are less sensitive. In managed pasture ozone affects the fodder quality by decreasing the proportion of clover. Long-term effects on permanent grassland are still largely unknown. On the Swiss Central Plateau potential yield losses in 1994 ranged between 10 and 20 %. The economic consequences of ozone pollution for arable farming are estimated to amount to over 200 mill. Swiss Francs annually. Measures to reduce ozone pollution would therefore have positive ecological and economic effects for agriculture.
