Several plants were investigated to evaluate their possibility to be used as a source of organic matter. Twenty six plants were grown on Red Yellow Podzolic Sitiung with two conditions, namely top and sub soil to evaluate plant characteristics. In the laboratory upland rice seeds were exposed to extract of plants to evaluate allelopathy problems. It was found that Sikaduduk (Melastoma sp), sweet potato, and Setaria were the selected plants as good organic matter sources. However, white Kerinju is considered as the best one, if its allelopathy problem can be reduced. Advantages of the white Kerinju are due to several reasons such as : high organic matter production, deeper roots system, well adapted for both top and sub soil, and easier to be found in the field.
