DEUTSCH: The low amount of capital available in smallholding families and the stucture of farms in most developing countries counteract the introduction of sophisticated technologies in many cases, unless expedient forms of "pooled machinery services" are made available. Under the given conditions, yields could be increased if simple appropriate implements - made cheaply on-the-spot by local craftsmen - are employed when the situation requires and when other factors e.g. improved work organisation, have already been fully exploited. A few examples of pertinent implements demonstrate the points to be given particular attention in the manufactorting process.
