Expressional characteristics of esterase (EST) isozymes in chicken ontogeny.

The polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) analysis was conducted for esterases (EST) of chicken's total embryos at 1-16 days old and various tissues (liver, heart, kidney, eye, brain and breast) in different development stages. The results showed that the EST zymogram presented not only at stage expression but also in tissue and organ specific expression. Moreover, the number of enzymic bands and its activities corresponded to the physiological functions of that tissue in which the isozyme existed. The EST isozyme exhibited a higher polymorphism in some tissues. In addition, discussions were given to the genetic background of EST isozymes and the regulation of EST genes to the expression of EST isozymes in chicken ontogeny.
