A study of the dryland agriculture was carried out in the Potosino-Zacatecano highlands, in order to learn about the management practices at the plot level and the effects of some environmental factors upon corn and drybean production. Two production methods were found; The commercial bean production initiated recently which uses water which falling in situ, with technology changing constantly; and the other which dates back as early as the XVII century, corn and drybean intercropping for selfconsumption, using runoof from the surrounding watershed with technology of their own. Soil moisture, plant population density of drybean; soil texture and the interaction between soil texture and soil moisture had a positive and a negative effect on production, respectively.
