It was observed that primary branches had the highest direct effect on fruit yield (0.6096), followed by fruit weight (0.4317), plant height (0.2552) and fruit number (0.1844). These characters had also positive genotypic correlation with fruit yield except fruit number. It may be stated that very high fruit number and less fruit weight in case of two lines involved in the present studies, might have contributed to the negative correlation between fruit number and fruit yield.
