A field trial was carried out with the objective of determining the response of 5 year old kiwis trees (Actinidia deliciosa) var. Hayward under different levels of water with trickle and microsprinkler irrigation. The treatments corresponded to trickle and microsprinkler irrigation and subtreatments with the application of different levels of water according to the reposition of 120, 100, 62, and 42 percent of the evaporation pan. It was possible to determine that kiwi trees respond to the differential application of water. Higher volumes of applied water had a positive effect upon the vegetative and reproductive tree growth expressed in an increase of trunk perimeter, shoots length, average fruit weight and production. In relation to quality parameters only the fruit size was clearly favored when higher irrigation rates were used. The different water volumes had no incidence on the soluble solids content and flesh pressure, both of them determined at harvest and 2 weeks later. Concerning the water use efficiency, trees with 42 percent of water reposition presented a higher production per m3 of water. Evapotranspiration relationships increased when water reposition levels were increased. During the irrigation season (Oct. 1992 - April 12, 1993) subtreatments received 4314.79 -12106.25 m3 of water/ha.
