Evidence suggested that associated legumes improve corn yield in intercropping system. The experiment was conducted to investigate if legumes in corn-legume intercropping without fertilizer can boost yield of corn comparable to that obtain from monocrop corn with fertilizer. This experiment was tested at Srisamrong Field Crops Research Station, Srisamrong district, Sukhothai province during July-October 1990, Treatments were arranged in Split-plot in RCB with 4 replications. Main plots were 15-15-15 fertilizer at the rates of 0 and 30 kg/rai and sub-plots were 1) corn alone (C) 2) corn+lablab (CLL) 3) corn+lablab as green manure (CLLgm) 4) corn+lima bean (CLM) 5) CLMgm 6) corn+black bean (CBB) 7) CBBgm 8) corn+rice bean (CRB) 9) CRBgm. There were no differences in yield, plant height and 100 seed weight of corn among treatments. However, the trend suggested that cutting legumes and used as green manure was appropriate especially for lablab as seed yields of corn were 642, 621 and 668 kg/rai for C (+fertilizer), CLL (-fertilizer) and CLLgm (-fertilizer), respectively.
