Both the professional and lay user can obtain an analysis of up to seven days of food intake. Personal data, including physical activity level, are entered along with food item codes and number of servings consumed. Corrections to data are made when data entry is completed. The diet analysis can be performed for one day or a combination of several days of intake. Nutrients designated as large and expressed as caloric values include protein, saturated, mono- and poly-unsaturated fats, complex carbohydrate and sugar. Fiber is displayed as a gram amount. Other nutrients designated as small and expressed as amount consumed are sodium, potassium, vitamins A and C, iron, calcium and cholesterol. The actual nutrient values consumed are compared to values in an ideal diet and a Dine score between zero and ten is assigned based upon quality of intake. Additional values provided include the percentage of total calories supplied by the large nutrient and alchol, ratios for polyunsaturated to saturated fat, and sodium to potassium. These values are presented as both actual and recommended levels. Messages are printed which flag over or under consumption of any nutrient and briefly discuss health aspects associated with the level of intake. The diet analysis can be viewed on the screen or printed. Data can be saved onto a disk for later use. The database contains approximately 3,400 food items and is expandable. Food items can be clustered into combinations and assigned one code number. Listings of food sources of nutrients can be viewed. A user's manual and text which includes a food dictionary are part of the package.
