In this paper are exposed the results of the comparative measurement of overground and underground parts of Serbian and Norway spruce seedlings, aged 4 and 16 months, from containers and Dunemann bed. The results show that the values of measured morphological characteristics for Norway spruce are greater than the same ones for Serbian spruce. Number of lateral roots is greater at seedlings of Norway and Serbian spruce grown in containers. The root lengths of the both species are double than the stem lengths. The viability of Serbian spruce seedlings, and particularly good development of their root system, point out at the possibility for successful cultivation in containers.
