The iodine content of sheep thyroids collected from a local slaughterhouse (September-February) was estimated. The mean thyroidal weight was 2.02 g (range 0.5 - 14.54). The iodine content ranged from undetectable to 0.44%. The mean iodine content was 0.03%. No relationship could be attributed to variations in iodine content with respect to thyroidal weight, sex and age of the animal. However, 1-year-old male and female sheep thyroids showed significant variations in iodine content.
