En la casa de malla del Centro de Pesquisa Agroflorestal de Rondonia, Brasil, entre septiembre y diciembre de 1989, se evaluo el efecto de la aplicacion de cal y fosforo (P) en la produccion de materia seca (MS) y en el contenido de proteina cruda (PC) de Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu cultivada en un Latosol. Despues de 12 semanas de crecimiento, la cal y el P afectaron (P menor que 0.01) la produccion de MS y el contenido de PC de la graminea. Cuando no se aplico cal, la mayor produccion de MS se obtuvo con la aplicacion de 119 kg/ha de P, pero cuando se aplicaron 2 t/ha de aquella, esta produccion se alcanzo con 100 kg/ha de P. La mayor produccion de PC se encontro con la aplicacion de 1 t/ha de cal y 22 kg/ha de P.
Show more [+] Less [-]English. The effect of applying lime and P on the dry matter (DM) yield and crude protein (CP) content of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu grown in a Latosol was studied from September to December, 1989, under screenhouse conditions at the Centro de Pesquisa Agroflorestal in Rondonia, Brazil. After 12 weeks of growth, lime and P were observed to affect (P less than 0.01) grass DM production and CP content. When no lime was applied, DM production was highest with 119 kg/ha of P; however, when 2 t/ha of lime was applied, this same production was reached with 100 kg/ha of P. The highest CP content was obtained by applying 1 t/ha of lime and 22 kg/ha of P. These results indicate that the quality of B. brizantha cv. Marandu improves and its production increases when both lime and P are applied.
