In Hungary, sheep are kept in 630 agricultural large-scale units, but more than 40 o/o of these lease their operations, because of unprofitability. They lease out the sheep population cleared by sorting out. Furthermore, the buildings, installations and the grazing areas belonging to the sheep-fold, depend on the average for a price of 5-600 Ft/ewe, in a few cases 20 o/o of the sales receipts is the wage. The leaseholders are in general the best shepherds of the large-scale units. In the leased farms the number of working people decreases, while the night-watchman, the feeder, the substitute, and the farm leader become redundant. The principle of "one herd, one shephard" comes into force. The enterpreneurs make the sheep-farming more profitable. The worktime restrictions cease to exist. The sheep graze when it is most favourable (e.g. in summer from 5 to 10 o'clock in the morning, and from 9 to 10 o'clock in the evening). They exploit the occasional pastures. The carefulness is greater, and the lamb mortality decreases. The leaser contract are valid for 5 years. The large-scale units help the enterprising shepherds (animal hygiene, transportation, they give straw in exchange for manure, etc.).
