Total planted area of groudnut in Thailand in 1986 was about 132,000 ha with a production of 0.178 million tons and a yield of 1350 kg/ha, representing an increases of 5.9 % for planted area and 4.09 % for production and a decrease of 1.82 % for yield. Cost of production per unit area showed a reduction of 1.86 % from the previous year but the cost per unit weight remained the same at 6 bahts/kg During January-July 1986, Thailand imported groundnut meal equivalent to 34,200 tons of dry pods, a substantial increased from the same period in the previous year. Total consumption increased from 169,600 tons in 1985 to 211,500 tons in 1986. Export declined to 700 tons compared to 1,500 tons in the previous year. Average farm gate price decreased from 6.69 baht/kg in 1985 to 6.04 baht/kg in 1986. As world production of groundnut in 1986 is expected to increase, consequently, the price is anticipated to decline further in 1987.
