Adattamento e fattori fisiologici limitanti la produttivita del frumento duro [Triticum durum].

ITALIANO: Le varieta a taglia bassa costituite negli ultimi anni, benche potenzialmente piu produttive delle varieta a taglia alta, che sono attualmente le piu coltivate, hanno avuto sinora scarsa diffusione nell'Italia meridionale perche giudicate poco adatte ai granicoltori. Per delineare l'ideotipo cui tendere nel lavoro di miglioramento genetico, sono state sviluppate alcune ricerche per identificare le possibili basi fisiologiche di tali diverse risposte all'ambiente. A questo scopo, con i metodi dell'analisi della crescita sono stati studiati per un biennio gli indici di accrescimento di alcune varieta, sia tradizionali a taglia alta, sia recenti a taglia bassa. In particolare, sono state ottenute stime di LAD, di NAR, di G/LAD e dell'"harvest index". In base ai risultati ottenuti, gli indici fisiologici che hanno influenza determinante sulle variazioni di produzione sono l'ampiezza e la durata funzionale della superficie fogliare, relative al periodo che va dalla spigatura alla maturazione. Vengono discusse le conseguenze a livello di ideotipo di questi risultati.

Although the dwarf and semidwarf varieties released during the last ten years have higher yielding potential than tall varieties which are still the most diffused, they are not yet grown in South Italy because they are not considered to be adapted by farmers. In the durum wheat breeding program and in order to define the best plant-ideotype, researches were developed to identify the possible physiological basis of such different varietal answers to environmental stress. With this aim, the growth indexes of four varieties, tall and traditional vs. new and semidwarf ones were studied for two years by growth analysis methods. Precise estimates of LAD, NAR, G/LAD and harvest index were obtained. On the basis of the results, the following physiological indexes showed effect on the yield variations: leaf area and LAD from heading to maturity. In fact, the max values of dry matter were raised by varieties with max value of LAD. On the other hand, high value of LAD was linked, in our case, with a semidwarf variety of late maturity, with high water requirement and therefore more exposed to typical environmental stress of sub-arid climatic conditions of Southern Italy. The consequences of these results at ideotype level are discussed.
