Time of planting affected weed species dominance. In experiment 1, Ludwigia octovalvis (Jacq.) Raven was dominant in the earliest planting because of high soil moisture content while Cyperus rotundus L. dominated in the later plantings where the soil moisture was lower. In experiment 2, Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn was dominant in the early planting while C. rotundus and Cleome rutidosperma DC. dominated in the late planting where dryer conditions prevailed. In both experiments, weed weights were higher in the earlier plantings due to higher soil moisture conditions. Crop yields were higher in the October 15 and November 15 plantings in the first experiment and in the November 15 and November 30 planting in the second experiment because of the more favorable moisture conditions for crop growth.
