Five American sorghum hybrids were investigated in agrotechnical conditions of Vojvodina (Yugoslavia). The hybrids were investigated in relation to the Novi Sad (Yugoslav) maize hybrid, NSSC-606. According to the time of tasseling, the earliest of the hybrids investigated was NK-301 then NK-405, Bundle King 4 and Pioneer-947. The hybrid Pioneer-911 had no tassel emergence which pointed to its high susceptibility to drought and high temperatures. The hybrids investigated have high stems. The characteristics of individual hybrids in the majority of cases significantly influenced the average yields of the green mass. There was a weak positive correlation between the crop density and yield. The crude protein content with the investigated sorghum hybrids was higher than in the green mass of maize. As regards the yield of green mass, the sorghum hybrids had lower values than maize except Pioneer-911. The yield of dry matter, Crude proteins and energy was more favourable in sorghum than in maize.
