Aphid incidence in selected potato-growing areas.

Some aphid species are vectors of the severe viruses of potato, e.g. potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) and potato virus y (PVY) which are the main causes of seed degeneration. The average total aphid populations monitored from January 1981 to December 1989 using Moericke aphid trap pans indicate that elevations, and seasons influence total aphid counts and peaks of populations. The Buguias seed Farm, Paoay, Natbuleng, Sinipsip and Bayoyo are identified potato seed production areas while Loo Valley and Bagio Experiment Station shold not qualify for seed production because of high aphid population during potato growing periods.
