This paper presents the results of investigating Yugoslav maize hybrids compared with the foreign ones, especially those originating from USA and France, as part of the EUCARPIA programme. The hybrids of FAO maturity group 200-700 were investigated in the period 1979-1983. Owing to limited space, the report analyses only the average yields per ha by countries, not giving the names of hybrids. At the end of each FAO group there is a rank order with 10 best hybrids in the analysed period (2 best hybrids each year). The FAO 200-300 maturity group hybrids at the Agricultural institute in Osijek had the average yield of 10.153 t/ha. The Yugoslav institutes' hybrids were on that level, or much above it, this indicating a high yield potential of these creations. 160 FAO 200-300 group hybrids and 150 FAO 400-500 group hybrids were investigated. The latter had a little higher average yield, which is logical, having in mind that these are late hybrids. OSSK 596 hybrid was the first in its group during all the time of investigation in EUCARPIA experiments. The most fecund of all 140 investigated FAO 600-700 group hybrids was OSSK 645 with 15.314 t/ha. According to other investigated properties (resistance to lodging, diseases and pests) the EUCARPIA hybrids present a firstclass material.
