Line x tester analysis of combining ability was used to ascertain combining ability potential of 12 new lines viz. DSN77, DSN78, DSN79, DSN81, LRG13, LRG39, LRG53, LRG85, SS5, 1407-5-66, 1407-36-B and LU31. Three commercial varieties viz. Faisalabad83, WL711 and Punjab81 were used as testers. Lines, DSN77, DSN81, LRG39, LRG53, 1407-5-66 and LU31 displayed positive general combining ability effects for yield and its one or more components. Among testers, WL711 was positive general combiner for grain yield and its components viz., 1000 grain weight, grains per spike and spike length. Higher specific combining ability effects matched mean performance of the hybrid in combinations of Faisalabad83 x DSN77, Faisalabad83 x LRG53, Punjab81 x DSN81, Punjab81 x LRG85, Punjab81 x 1407-5-66, WL711 x LRG13, WL711 x LRG39 WL-711xSS5.
