Influence of pelleting of coating with biogas slurry on P utilization from dicalcium phosphate and super-phosphate by maize (Zea mays L.) and the residual effect on Pea (Pisum sativum L.).

Superphosphate (SSP) was superior to dicalcium phosphate (DCP) in a neutral soil (pH 7.6) from Delhi and the reverse was true in an acid soil (pH 5.7) from Kendrapara for total P uptake by maize. No appreciable difference was observed among the differently treated phosphatic sources viz., coating the fertilizer with biogas slurry, pelleting with soil (1:3) or direct application in neutral soil, whereas slurry coated source was the best method in Kendrapara soil. Slurry coating resulted in higher phosphate utilization, the increase over direct application being 3.3 % in the first soil and 8.1 % in the second soil. Pelleting of the fertilizer with soil was found to be the least effective method of phosphate application. A higher residual effect was observed with slurry coating of superphosphate in neutral soil and pelleted DCP in acid soil.
