BAHASA: Suatu penelitian dilakukan secara survey di Kabupaten Majene dan Kabupaten Jeneponto, Sulawesi Selatan pada bulan Agustus 1986 dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pola pengembangan ternak kambing di daerah tersebut. Penentuan lokasi dan responden di 2 kecamatan yang telah terpilih untuk mewakili kedua kabupaten tersebut, yaitu Kecamatan Binamu di Kabupaten Jeneponto dan Kecamatan Banggae di Kabupaten Majene, dilakukan secara purposive random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem pemeliharaan ternak kambing di dua daerah tersebut mempunyai karakteristik yang berbeda. Pemeliharaan kambing di Majene adalah dengan sistim dikandangkan penuh, sedangkan di Jeneponto dengan sistim digembalakan. Rata-rata jumlah pemilikan ternak di kedua kabupaten tidak berbeda nyata (P>0.05), yaitu 6,9 -4,2 ekor di Majene dan 4,4 -2,7 ekor di Jeneponto. Pakan ternak kambing di Majene lebih banyak berupa daun-daunan, sedangkan di Jeneponto lebih banyak berupa rumput alam. Di Kedua lokasi penelitian tersebut pemberian suplemen pakan hampir tidak pernah dilakukan. Tingkat kematian anak kambing sampai umur sapih masih tinggi yaitu 29,4 persen di Majene dan 54,5 persen di Jeneponto. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengusahaan ternak kambing di Kabupaten Majene dan Jeneponto mempunyai potensi untuk dikembangkan, dengan penekanan pada peningkatan managemen terutama pemberian pakan.
Show more [+] Less [-]English. A survey to study the goat development in two regencies, Majene and Jeneponto of South Sulawesi was conducted in August 1986. The purposive random sampling technique was used to choose the location and respondent in each district represented the two regencies. Those districts were Banggae in the regency of Majene and Binamu in the regency of Jeneponto. Results showed that goat husbandry practiced in the two locations was different. In Majene goats were fully confined and in Jeneponto were grazed. In two locations, the average number of animals owned by farmers was similar (P>0.05). Those were 6.9 -4.2 heads in Majene and 4,4 - 2.7 heads in Jeneponto. Food consumed by goats in Majene consisted primarily of plant leaves, while in Jeneponto was native grasses. Feed supplements were rarely given to the animals. Pre-weaning kid mortality rate was considered high. This mortality figure was 29.4 percent for Majene and 54.5 percent for Jeneponto. It is concluded that goat husbandry in the regencies of Majene and Jeneponto has the potential for development with emphasis should be given to the management techniques of feeding and raising pregnant ewes and preweaning kids.
