Suriname can be divided into four geomorphological landscapes: the interland, the savanna zone, the Old and the Young coastal region. A lot of our ecosystems are mainly restricted to one of these four landscapes. In this paper the ecosystems are divided into three main groups which are then further divided into subgroups. The three main ecosystems are the Aquatic freshwater ecosystems, the Palustrial freshwater ecosystems and the Terrestrial ecosystems.This paper further discusses the characteristic flora and fauna of these different ecosystems in detail.
