In this report the animal husbandry sector is discussed, more specifically the contribution that animal husbandry can make to the preservation of biodiversity and the strategy that has to be followed. After a short introduction the development of the Animal Husbandry sector in Suriname, its genetic potential and the possibilities to preserve and improve this potential, the law for the protection of animals and animal species is discussed and some examples are given which show how Animal Husbandry can contribute to the preservation of biodiversity.
