The substitution effect of copper sulfate for antibiotics on the performance of finishing pigs.

To study the effect and optimum level of copper sulfate in the ration on the growth performance of growing-finishing pigs, 60 heads of pigs weighing about 50Kg were used and the results obtained. The addition of copper sulfate or antibiotics cause the increase of daily gain of pigs. But when the level of copper sulfate was more than 500mg/Kg, the daily gain of them decreased. Although there was no significant difference in feed efficiency among treatments, feed per Kg gain decreased when 250mg of copper sulfate and 250mg of antibiotics were added. The level of RBC and Hb in the blood decreased as the level of copper sulfate increased, but there was no difference in PVC among treatments. The content of copper and iron in the liver increased as the level of copper sulfate increased. The results of this experiment indicated that the optimum level of copper sulfate for the better growth performance of growing-finishing pigs considered to be 250mg/Kg.
