The starting numbers of the observed population were 437 ISA VEDETTE and 1563 ROSS 208 hybrid layers. The layers and the cocks were placed in one and two levelled cages separately, with 16 layers per 1 m2 cage area. The lighting was in winter according to programme, and in summer supplementing natural light, in the 600 m2 laying house. The layers of the two populations got preparative concentrate between 17-22 weeks of age and laying concentrate after the 22nd week. The protein and metobolisable energy content of both concentrates were 16 o/o and 11.5 MJ/kg, resp. The egg production was examined from its start till 62 weeks of age. The egg production per hen was among the ISA VEDETTE dwarf parent pairs 152, and among the ROSS 208 normal parent pairs 163. The feed consumption per layer was by 34 g less in the dwarf population than in the normal population. The deviation from the standard egg production resulted in 11 and 21.8 o/o income supplement, resp., among the dwarf and normal populations.
