Effect of hill spacing and defoliation on yield and yield components of Giza 75 cotton variety [Egypt].

Two field experiments were carried out at Gemmeiza Agric. Res. Sta. during 1986 and 1987 seasons, to study the effect of hill spacing (10, 15, and 20 cm between hill) and defoliation (0, 15, 30 and 45 gram per faddan of N-phenyl-N-1,2,3-thiadiazol-5-yl-urea) on yield and yield components of Giza 75 cotton variety. The results indicated that hill spacing significantly affected seed cotton yield, whereas the highest number of open bolls per plant, seed cotton yield per plant and seed cotton yield per faddan were obtained by 20 cm hill spacing. Number of plants per faddan at harvest time significantly decreased by increasing hill spacing from 10 to 20 cm between hills.
