The paper summarizes the bibliographical data regarding the antagonistic fungi of powdery mildews. Until now there are more than 40 fungal species that shows (in nature or under laboratory conditions) antagonistic activity against different powdery mildew fungi. Beyond the ennumeration of these antagonistic fungi and the powdery mildews they controlled and their host plants, there are listed the antagonists (a great number of species belonging to 21 genera) that have been already tested in a greater or smaller degree for biological control, too. The importance of the most significant antagonistic fungi (Ampelomyces, Tilletiopsis, Stephanoascus and Acremonium species) is also discussed. Their applicability for practical purposes in plant protection is presented from several point of views, including the effectivity of the antagonists under cultural conditions, the conditions for the massproduction of the antagonists, the human toxicological and the phytopathological aspects of their application and the effect of different pesticides against the antagonistic organisms in the interest of the realisation of the integrated control. Our preliminary results are presented regarding the applicability of the hyperparasites Ampelomyces spp., too.
