Market and financial feasibility of cement-bonded chicken feather composites manufacture in the Philippines

A market and financial feasibility was conducted on the recycled waste chicken feather cement bonded board [CBB]. The results of the market study showed that the proposed project is feasible from the market standpoint. There is a demand for cement-bonded composites from recycled waste chicken feathers owing to the need to provide shelter assistance to the country's growing population considering that the projected demand for panelboards for exceeds the supply. The chicken feather cement bonded board is perceived to be competitive with those that are currently available in the market. The potential users are willing to use the chicken feather CBB in their future projects. Likewise, the potential sellers are willing to sell the product in their stores. The results of the financial study also indicated that the proposed pilot plant is financially feasible given the assumption of sustained market demand. Positive net incomes can be expected. Financial analysis yields an ROI [return on investment] of 22%, and IRR [internal rate of return]of 28% and an NPV [net present value] of P2.6 million. Initial investment in a CBB plant is P5.8 million. The management of poultry dressing plants in the country should seriously consider the potential of waste chicken feathers as an aggregate in cement-bonded board production. The utilization of this material will be beneficial to the industry as it will significantly reduce solid waste pollution thereby conserving the environment. The use of chicken feather boards will also help the government in looking for alternative low-cost building materials for its national shelter program.
