Among the viruses prevalent, tomato mosaic virus is the most important and commonly associated with tomato crop and is distributed throughout Pakistan. To combat this problem, twelve tomato lines/ varieties were screened for the source of resistance against tomato mosaic virus in field trial conducted at research area of plant pathology department. The observations of ToMV disease severity were recorded on weekly basis. Pigweed (Chenopodium amaranticolor) was used for the confirmation of ToMV. VRI-19 exhibited highly resistance response while VRI-49 showed resistance response and Nagina, VRI-15, VRI-5, VRI-29 were moderately susceptible. Money maker found highly susceptible against ToMV. Plant extracts (A. indica, A. aspera and W. somnifera) 1% concentration were effective in reducing the diseases incidence. The most effective treatment was A. indica extract at 1% concentration in reduction of ToMV as compared to control and other plant extracts. It might be concluded that plant extract play vital role in the management of viral diseases.
