Immediate and subsequent effects of potassium in long-term fertilization experiments

Increasing doses of potassium increased the levels of all forms of K in the soil. High dose of potassium led to significant increase in the amounts of this component even in deepest soil horizon. After 5 years, on the soils fertilized with high dose of K there occurred a systematic accumulation of spare and non-exchangeable potassium. On the plots not fertilized with potassium for 9 years, the levels of all three forms of this component steadily decreased. The highest decrease occurred in the active form and the lowest in the spare form of potassium
